Yes, made think of St Anthony communing with the fishies. Love the idea of singing to bemused seals! Holy poetry’s mad sanity.

I have a volume of Elizabeth Bishop's "complete poetry" to which I return more often than almost any other book of poems on my shelf (probably second only to Eliot's Four Quartets), and it's not because we share a surname. She really was a master.

Interesting! Placement alongside the Four Quarters is high praise. I’m familiar with some of her poems but not her corpus - which other poems would you name as favorites?
